Our Hatha classes are Iyengar based, but our teachingstyles are quite different.
We feel privilleged to have been able to learn about yoga in the past, it has changed our lives for the better in many ways.
Therefor we want give back to all who are interested by yoga.
Through an individual and gentle approach, and with the help of props (bolsters, blocs, straps), yoga becomes accessible and beneficial to all people of all ages and shapes 🙂
We live with Sunshine our very friendly and hypo-allergenic dog 😀
About Valerie & Johannes
YOGA… 16 years ago I took my first yoga class at Luna Yoga with Jeanne Mudie, after my my ostheopath, who had just “straightened” my scoliotic twisted back as good as he could, told me this would be good for me. As I walked out of that class, I felt so good: light, happy, something had happened to my body but also inside: I was intrigued and wanted to know more.
Over the years I continued practicing and explored different styles, different teachers, until it became clear to me that a more Iyengar, aligned approach was essential to keep my spine in line.
In 2012 I finally started a yoga teacher training (more for me than to teach)at Naada Yoga Montreal, and discovered the treasure box that yoga is after Mark Singleton’s workshop on yoga philosophy. Now I was ready to share my passion and started to teach. I continued studying and am finishing a yoga therapy certification. In the meantime I looked for trainings that benefitted me so that I could share them from experience rather than from theory : yoga for scoliosis, restorative yoga and because I wished I had discovered yoga at a young age: yoga for kids and teens.
Yoga also followed me of the mat and helped me through a burn-out, helped me ground, discover meditation and remain open to what the universe is offering me.
COACHING… When I left my corporate job in 2012, I also embarked on getting a Coaching certification at Concordia. Together with my yoga teacher training, this was definitely a year of personal transformation. I was coaching myself , with the help of my mentor-coach, Mirella De Civita (Papillon MDC Inc.) , and found the path of my dreams, and with that experience and yoga I can now be fully present to coach others to reach their dreams.
The combination of yoga and coaching became clear, tapping into our bodies when the words don’t show up or from the movement of yoga, allow the body to open the parts we can not always talk about.
2017… A dream comes true: Johannes and I opened Ekagrata Yoga and Coaching in Pierrefonds.
Johannes and I share the same “Ekagrata” (sanskrit for “single pointed focus”).
Improved wellbeing through yoga for everybody and therefore all our classes (including coaching) are offered on a donation base.
May your thoughts be peaceful
Your words kind
And your heart always loving
Born in the Netherlands in 1969
As a teenager i discovered that standing out of the crowd has little to do with talent but much more with attitude and dedication to a certain subject.
In the past subjects have been, playing table tennis as a teenager, an entrepreneur in my twenties and climbing the ladder in the corporate world in my thirties.
In 2010 after several months of intensive meditation the universe presented yoga to me in Atlanta Georgia. Soon I realized that teaching this ancient knowledge would help me to learn from all my previous experiences and continue to develop the mind and the body continuously while being of service to the people in a sustainable way.
Following my Hatha Iyengar orientated graduation I taught privately and in studio settings from 2011-2012 in Atlanta (GA) and on Hilton Head Island (SC USA).
In 2014/15: I taught yoga in Siem Reap (Cambodia) at following venues:• Khmer Community, starting up the Apsara Yoga club (volunteer)
• Navutu Dreams Resort
• Angkor Bodhi Tree Meditation and Yoga Retreat Center
• Private therapeutic sessions at the British Khmer Clinic
• Outdoor classes and yoga for office people at Angkor Hub
• Yoga / cycling tours through the Angkor park
In 2015/2016 I cycled from Cambodia to London (UK) and shared yoga for free with over 500 people on this yoga induced cycling tour
Taught Adaptive yoga in centers for both mentally and physically disabled people in Siem Reap (Cambodia), Bangkok (Thailand), Yangon (Myanmar), Imphal (Manipur India)
In September 2016, I cycled back to Munich to be an in-house yoga teacher for 3 months
In December I 2016 moved to Pierrefonds Montreal and co-started Ekagrata yoga studio with Valerie
